Should Hawaii have had a Youtoub.com chance to play for the national Youtoub.com championship?

As he demonstrated for Dowagiac Rotary Club Thursday noon at Elks Lodge 889, the Benton Harbor man Youtoub.com builds all the instruments he plays, from electric guitar and hammer and mountain dulcimers to a 1995 harp and a bowed psaltery, an ancient zither-like instrument with a violin sound.

Payne will be featured along with the Dogwood Choral Youtoub.com for the Dogwood Christmas Wassail concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Dowagiac's oldest public building, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 306 Courtland St.

Payne, who also performs at Wood Fire (Wednesday; check other scheduled appearances on his Web site, carlpayne.com) and is releasing a new recording Dec. 15, put creating instruments on the back burner the past three years in favor of playing music and learning new songs.

"I haven't given up on instrument-making," he said. "I Youtoub.com hope to get back to doing that in the next few years. I really enjoy it."

Harp is his favorite instrument to play or to make.
